Billions invested in inner Joburg

Johannesburg – The City of Johannesburg has marked the success of the first five years of the national urban development zone (UDZ) tax incentive, which has brought R5-billion worth of investment to its UDZ in the inner city.

Of this amount, investments to the value of R1-billion have already been completed, according to the city’s official website.

Gauteng to open 55 new schools this year

Johannesburg - More than 50 new schools will be opened in Gauteng this year and 150 science laboratories refurbished in previously disadvantaged communities, says Gauteng Education MEC Angie Motshekga.

Addressing the media during the provincial government’s quarterly media briefings in Johannesburg on Tuesday MEC Motshekga said the provincial government had improved school infrastructure including renovations to school buildings.

Kick off time for KZN’s mass sport participation tournament

Durban – The Provincial Champion Schools Tournament, which forms part of KwaZulu-Natal’s School Sport Mass Participation Programme (SSMPP), is set to kick off on 18 July 2008 at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
According to the provincial Department of Sport and Recreation, the recently launched SSMPP will come of age next week with the holding of the tournament.
