Botswana's stance on Zimbabwe

I wish to prefix my remarks by informing this meeting that Botswana has over the years enjoyed cordial and fruitful relations with Zimbabwe and these have been characterised by cooperation in various sectors.



Our two countries are united by a common historical and cultural heritage which has brought our people together...

Mbeki meets Mugabe - again

HARARE - South African President Thabo Mbeki met Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Saturday to try to help end a political crisis after a violent election that extended Mugabe's 28-year rule.

The main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), said its leader Morgan Tsvangirai had declined to meet Mbeki, who has tried to mediate between the two sides.

Tsvangirai and his MDC have criticised Mbeki's mediation efforts, accusing him of siding with Mugabe...

HARARE , 4 July 2008 (IRIN) - The flower seller booths on Unity Square in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare, are now the haunt of money changers, because this is one of the few commercial activities in the country still experiencing any kind of growth.

Cosmos, 24, fell into the business a few years ago while working at a bar, where he changed some local money for foreign tourists who had US dollars, or "green leaf" as he calls it. The roughly US$150 a month he makes in profit...
