Johannes wins SA Half Marathon Championships

Namibian marathon athlete Helaria Johannes was in great form when she won the South African Half Marathon Championships in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Johannes’ winning time of 1 hour 10 minutes 59 seconds equalled her Namibian record that she established at the Old Mutual Victory Races in Swakopmund on September 24 last year.

Namibian women lose to Canada, Finland

Namibia lost their opening two matches at the Women’s World Inline Hockey Championships. On July 6 Finland beat Namibia 3-1 and on July 7 Canada beat Namibia 5-1. Namibia now face two more tough matches against the Czech Republic and France on July 8. Gudrun Denker reports.

Ali Akan and his Namibian contingent have been given another lifeline of securing the remaining berth in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

This is after they defeated fellow National First Division side Dynamos 2-1 in the second leg of the semi-final playoff played at Polokwane's Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. The two sides had earlier played to a goalless draw in the first leg at Eldorado Stadium last Wednesday.

ATM bombing reported in Elspark

Johannesburg – Organised criminals bombed an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Elspark on the East Rand in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

This brings the total number of ATM bombings to over 41 in the country since April, and 160 since the beginning of the year, with Gauteng being the hardest hit.

Elsburg police spokesperson Sasa Lengene, told BuaNews a gang of 15 men targeted an Absa machine at the King Fisher Shopping...

Girl guides, scouts give Madiba birthday card

Boksburg – A large birthday card made and signed by girls belonging to World Association of Girls Guides and Girls Scouts (WAGGGS) will certainly put a grin on South Africa’s former President’s face.

This is according to his wife Grace Machel who received the card on his behalf.

“I can imagine Tata’s joy and happiness when he receives this beautiful card,” said Ms Machel in Boksburg, Johannesburg on Monday.
