City of Joburg to increase electricity tariffs

Johannesburg – Johannesburg Executive Mayor Amos Masondo has announced that the increase of 20.6 percent in electricity tariffs will be effective from the 1 August.

The increases will not affect the poor, the mayor said, as the municipality will continue supplying impoverished households with 100 kWh of free electricity.

Beijing - Beijing has established a high-quality public transportation system to ease traffic congestion during the Olympic Games.

Malaria still a major challenge in Africa - WHO

Lusaka - The African continent is loosing up to $12 billion per year of its Gross Domestic Product in scaling up malaria intervention programs, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

WHO country representative, Olusegun Babaniyi said malaria remains a global threat to the attainment of social-economic targets, with three million and more cases and an estimated one million deaths annually.
