Brendell, Baisako off to Switzerland

Brave Warriors wingers Brian Brendell and Jeremia Baisako have left for Switzerland to attend trials with FC Aarau.

FC Aarau is one of the top clubs in the Swiss Super league and finished in fifth position at the end of the 2007/08 season. The Swiss 2008/09 season has already started and Aarau is currently leading the Super League. After six matches they are still unbeaten having won four and drawn two matches.

* AS everyone is lightning fast to increase prices when fuel prices go up, will the same happen now when the price of petrol and diesel goes down? Let us be fair to consumers and pass this reduction to them.

WHS beat HTS in thriller

Windhoek High School (WHS) retained the U19 Super trophy at the Metropolitan Boards Schools Rugby competition after beating Hoer Tegniese Skool (HTS) 22-19 in a thrilling final on Saturday night.

Playing in front of about 3 000 singing fans at the Hage Geingob National Stadium, both teams provided a great spectacle of exciting attacking rugby, as the lead changed hands throughout the match.

Indongo out in first round

Anthony Little of Australia comprehensively beat Namibia’s Julius Indongo 14-2 on points in the first round of their lightweight bout at the Olympic Games on Monday.

Although Indongo pushed the pace from the start, taking the fight to his opponent, his punches seldom found the target. Little, on the other hand, was quick on the counterattack and piled on the points with quick combinations to Indongo’s head and body.

Conradie apologises and MTC resumes rugby sponsorship

MTC’s sponsorship of Namibian rugby will continue after the president of the Namibia Rugby Union Dirk Conradie offered an unconditional apology at a press conference at the Namibia Rugby Union’s headquarters on Monday.

MTC had earlier suspended its N2 million annual sponsorship after FNB Namibia
sponsored a match between an invitational Namibian team and Vodacom Western Province on June 7, in contravention of the NRU’s sponsorship agreement with MTC.
