Telecom sponsors Box ‘n Dine

Telecom Namibia on Wednesday announced a sponsorship of N$203 000 for the Box ‘n Dine event that will take place at the Windhoek Country Club on August 16.

In the main event Namibia’s former WBA Pan African welterweight champion Jason Naule will try to reclaim his title in a rematch against South Africa’s Kaizer Mabuza.

Naule lost the title in his first defence when Mabuza hammered him into submission on March 21 to win on an 11th round technical knockout.

Williams satisfied with performance against Zimbabwe

Namibian rugby coach John Williams has expressed satisfaction with their performance against Zimbabwe on Saturday, which keeps their hopes alive of qualifying for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Namibia won the match 35-21 after leading 28-0 at halftime and Williams admitted that the players relaxed too much in the second half.

Hoffmann 22nd in Olympic road race

Namibian cyclist Erik Hoffmann came 22nd in the cycling road race at the Olympic Games on Saturday.

Hoffmann completed the 245km road race in a time of 6 hours 26 minutes 17 seconds to finish 2 minutes 28 seconds behind the winner, Samuel Sanchez of Spain. Sanchez completed the race at an average speed of 38,36km.

The road race started with a 79km ride from Beijing to the Great Wall of China, from where it covered seven more laps of about 24km each.
