The Namibia Football Association has issued a stern warning that the perpetrators of Saturday’s destruction at a Witbank hotel will be dealt with.
The Kickoff website reported that drunk Namibian players went on the rampage in Witbank on Saturday night, trashing a room at their hotel and causing damage estimated at R5 000.
According to the website, three players, whose identities are being withheld by authorities, were responsible for setting off a fire extinguisher in their room, breaking a mirror, the locks of the hotel room door and throwing a litre of Lucozade all over the carpets, the management of the Protea Hotel in Witbank said.
Fire authorities were also needlessly called out after the players set off the fire extinguisher.
A claim for the damages is to be made against the team, which left the hotel on Sunday morning for Johannesburg, where they were to catch a flight back to Windhoek. New carpets, mirror and door locks have to be installed.

Namibia lost 1-0 to South Africa’s Development Team in their Cosafa Senior Challenge quarterfinal in Witbank on Saturday.
NFA spokesperson Beau Kauta said that they did not know who the perpetrators were but that they would deal with it once the facts came out.
“This has put us all to shame. We also just read about it here in Namibia, but we are now waiting for the report that the South African Football Association will compile on the matter. We want to assure the nation that we will take the necessary steps against the perpetrators,” he said.
Kauta said that the names of the players or officials were being withheld by the hotel management while the case was under investigation.
“As soon as we have more information we will make it available,” he said.
The Namibian team is expected back in Windhoek on Tuesday morning.
