FNB in collaboration with the Janine & Suzelle Davin Sport Trust are staging the FNB/Windhoek High School Sport Festival from July 3 to 5 at Windhoek High School. The FNB Sport Festival involves U19 school team from Namibia, South Africa and New Zealand.

WHS will compete against schools from South Africa and New Zealand at the FNB/WHS Sport Festival on July 3-5, 2008.
At the launch of the FNB/Windhoek High School Sport Festival, FNB CEO, Leonard Haynes said that FNB opened all cylinders at the beginning of this year by intensifying their school sport sponsorship drive more aggressively. “We are not only sponsoring tennis development with a cool N$164 000 annual sponsorship to the Namibia Tennis Association, but we have widened sport sponsorship at school level to rugby, soccer and netball through the exciting FNB Classic Clashes,” he reminded the public.
Haynes added that the FNB Classic Clashes was a pilot project for 2008, “but the excitement and hype we have created so far confirmed our intension to roll out the FNB Classic Clashes to more schools in other parts of the country.”
“But this is not all. In view of our corporate philosophy of How can we help you? we reached out to other equally important partnerships such as the Janine & Suzelle Davin Sport Trust. This approach will enable us as the leading bank in the industry to broaden our network of partnerships in sport and ensure that our sponsorship funds benefit a wider pool of sportsmen and women, especially during the developmental stage at school level,” Haynes said.
The FNB CEO said: “I would like to congratulate the Davin Trust for staging the first-ever FNB/Windhoek High School Sports Festival and we are proud of the association between FNB and the Janine & Suzelle Davin Sport Trust.”
He continued that Namibian schools usually travelled to similar sport festivals in South Africa, “however, we now have the pleasure of inviting some of the best sporting schools to Windhoek,” he mentioned with pride.
Haynes said: “The FNB/Windhoek High School project is unique because it assembles sport teams of various high schools from Namibia, South Africa and New Zealand and I am sure that this international sport festival has the capacity to produce high quality rugby, hockey, netball, and tennis.”
“I would like to thank Windhoek High School for making their wonderful sporting facilities available for this sport festival. A huge thank you goes to the Janine & Suzelle Davin Sports Trust for the organization of this wonderful event,” FNB CEO, Leonard Haynes stated.
In response, Herman Davin, Trustee of the Janine & Suzelle Davin Sport Trust said that about 500 U19 players in rugby, netball, hockey and tennis will participate in the FNB/Windhoek High School Sport Festival. He added that 10 teams will play rugby, six will play girls hockey, five will play boys hockey, eight teams will play netball while nine teams are slated to play tennis.
“The schools participating in the FNB/Windhoek High School Sport Festival are Grey College, Paarl Boys High, Vryheid Natal and Stellenbosch High from South Africa. The Namibian contingent will be represented by Windhoek High School, Cravenweek Team, HTS, Elnatan, St. Paul’s College, St. Georges, Academia, Jan Mohr, Tsumeb Gymnasium, Windhoek Afrikaans Privaatskool, DHPS, Swakopmund Coastals and Keetmanshoop Privaatskool with Hastings representing New Zealand,” Davin confirmed.
He promised excellent school sport which would create fireworks at the FNB/Windhoek High School Sport Festival. “I would like to thank FNB for the commitment in developing sports at school level and I have no doubt that FNB is taking a strong lead in moulding young sportsmen and women to sport events of international status,” he concluded.
