Ali Akan and his Namibian contingent have been given another lifeline of securing the remaining berth in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

This is after they defeated fellow National First Division side Dynamos 2-1 in the second leg of the semi-final playoff played at Polokwane's Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. The two sides had earlier played to a goalless draw in the first leg at Eldorado Stadium last Wednesday.

Pirates close in on League Title

A late goal by Wilfred Coetzee gave Orlando Pirates a priceless 2-1 victory against Eleven Arrows on Saturday to take them to the verge of winning the MTC Namibia Premier League title.

The victory gave Pirates a two-point lead over Civics, who were held to a goalless draw by SKW, while Ramblers are now out of the title race after losing 1-0 to Oshakati City.

In other matches on Saturday, Blue Waters were relegated when they lost 3-1 to Tigers at Khomasdal, while Mighty...

Civics beat Ramblers 2-0 on Wednesday night to join Orlando Pirates at the top of the log on 35 points.

Patrick Mkontwana pounced on to a loose ball to open the scoring on 63 minutes while substitute Tugela Tuyeni made it 2-0 in injury time when he shot a corner clearance into the net.

Ramblers had numerous chances especially in the second half, but they could not penetrate Civics’ defence, for whom Jamu Ngatjizeko and Erastus Ndjavera were in excellent form.

Warriors slide down Fifa rankings

Namibia’s Brave Warriors dropped a massive 15 places on the recent Coca-Cola FIFA rankings released this week by the world’s football governing body.

After a disappointing campaign in the 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers, which included three successive losses to Guinea and Zimbabwe, the Brave Warriors are now ranked at 131 in the world and 38 in Africa.
