Conradie apologises and MTC resumes rugby sponsorship

MTC’s sponsorship of Namibian rugby will continue after the president of the Namibia Rugby Union Dirk Conradie offered an unconditional apology at a press conference at the Namibia Rugby Union’s headquarters on Monday.

MTC had earlier suspended its N2 million annual sponsorship after FNB Namibia
sponsored a match between an invitational Namibian team and Vodacom Western Province on June 7, in contravention of the NRU’s sponsorship agreement with MTC.

Williams satisfied with performance against Zimbabwe

Namibian rugby coach John Williams has expressed satisfaction with their performance against Zimbabwe on Saturday, which keeps their hopes alive of qualifying for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Namibia won the match 35-21 after leading 28-0 at halftime and Williams admitted that the players relaxed too much in the second half.

Namibia’s biggest schools rugby competition, the Metropolitan Boards Rugby Trophy enters the semifinal stage this weekend and some exciting encounters can be expected.

Windhoek High School are the defending champions in the U19 Super League but they will have to be at their best if they hope to retain their title.

Strong team to face Zimbabwe

National rugby coach John Williams has selected 12 of Namibia’s foreign-based players for their World Cup qualifying encounter against Zimbabwe in Windhoek on August 2.

Speaking at a press conference at the Namibia Rugby Union’s (NRU’s) headquarters on Wednesday morning, Williams said that it was a do-or-die match that Namibia had to win.

Reho Falcon pulled off a dramatic 19-18 victory against Western Suburbs in a top-of-the-log Club Rugby Premier League clash at Suburbs Park on Saturday.

Suburbs seemed to be heading for victory when they took an 18-12 lead in the second half, but Falcons struck back with a try in the final minute of the game.
