Christine Briedenhann of the Namibia Swimming Academy was the star swimmer at two Age Group Galas at the Western Suburbs Swimming Pool on Friday and Saturday.

Briedenhann set the only record of the weekend when she broke her elder sister Jonay’s 200m freestyle record for Girls 12 and under on Saturday.

Christine completed the event in a time of 2:24,82, which was nearly three seconds faster than Jonay’s five-year-old record of 2:27,63.

42 records at short course gala

There were some outstanding performances at the second short course gala of the season on July 18 to 20 when a total of 42 new national age group records were established.

Christine Briedenhann and Rory Buck, both of the Namibia Swimming Academy, led the way with six records each, while Quinrton Delie of Dolphins Swimming Club produced five records.

Five records at Short Course Gala

The Namibian winter swimming season got off to a great start when five new records were established at a short course gala in Windhoek on Saturday.

Quinton Delie of Dolphins was in great form, setting a new record in the Boys 15/16 freestyle event. He broke his own previous record of 25,86 seconds with a new time of 25,21.
Delie also came close to breaking three more records.

He won the Boys 50m backstroke event in 29,61 seconds, which was just outside Byron...
