Kenya selects athletics squad for Beijing Olympics

Nairobi - Kenya has selected 37 athletes to represent the country at the Beijing Olympic Games following two days of national trials held at the Nyayo National Stadium over the weekend.
The Beijing Olympics is to be held from 8 to 24 August.
National women's 400 metres champion Elizabeth Muthoka of Kenya Prisons Saturday bettered her own national record to earn qualification to the Olympics.
Ms Muthoka broke her own record after finishing the event in 50.82 seconds.
Reigning Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi and world champion Brimin Kipruto finished first and second respectively in the men's 3000 metres steeplechase and will be joined by Richard Matelong in the quest for a clean medal sweep in Beijing.
World junior champion Ruth Bosibori and Eunice Chepkorir made it in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase while Edwin Cheruyot qualified for the men's 5 000 metres as did Eliud Kipchoge who came second.
In the women's 10 000 metres, Commonwealth champion Lucy Kabuu and Prisca Jepleting qualified alongside their male counterparts, Moses Masai, Martin Irungu and Micah Kogo.
The women's 800 metres sensation Pamela Jelimo beat world champion Janeth Jepkosgei to second position in a nail-biting finish and both will represent the country in the two-lap race.
Former world indoor champion Wilfred Bungei and new comer Boaz Lalang sailed through in the men's 800 metres race.
Others who have qualified are Augustine Kipronoh Choge and Asbel Kiprop in the 1 500 metres along with Viola Kibiwot and Nancy Jebet in the women's event.
The 37 athletes, who include women's marathon champion Catherine Ndereba and world half marathon record holder Samwel Wanjiru, will report to residential camp at the Moi International Sports Centre at Kasarani next week. – BuaNews-NNN
