Five men arrested for breaking into prisons offices

The police have arrested five men suspected of breaking into the offices of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services in Windhoek a month ago.
During the break-in, the thieves stole eleven fire-arms and other items, including a computer hard drive.
The arrests were made towards the end of last week and the suspects are expected to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate's court today.
Ten fire-arms have so far been recovered, while a pistol is still to be accounted for. The suspects, whose ages range between 27 to 38 years, have previous criminal records and some of them were recently released from custody. The police made the announcement during its weekly crime briefing in the capital.
Still in Windhoek, around seven people robbed the Amarula Pool Bar of about seven-thousand dollars before fleeing in a taxi.
At Brakwater, four men broke into a house and robbed an elderly woman of belongings valued at 50-thousand dollars at gunpoint.
The items include a Toyota pick-up, a TV set, a lap top, cameras and clothes. Meanwhile, a pedestrian died on Saturday morning in Windhoek's Florence Nightingale Street after being hit by a car.
The driver was arrested, while on Friday, Albertus Diergaardt died on the Okahandja/Karibib main road when his motorcycle was hit by a truck. A passenger sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Okahandja State Hospital.
