SA making progress in providing ICT to rural areas - Mbeki

Limpopo – South Africa has made some progress regarding the provision of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to South Africans, especially those in rural areas, says President Thabo Mbeki on Sunday.

President Mbeki was briefing reporters after the eighth Presidential International Advisory Council on Information Society and Development (PIAC on ISAD), which advises him and his Cabinet in the areas of ICT.

Expo to promote Indigenous Knowledge system

Pretoria - A week-long expo to promote Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) will kick off in Pretoria, on Monday.

Science and Technology Minister, Mosibudi Mangena will officially open the expo which will be attended by IKS holders and practitioners from around the country.
The IKS expo is organised by the department, in partnership with the Northern Flagship Institution and other government departments and science councils.

Africa to get Microsoft innovation centres

Johannesburg – Head of Microsoft South Africa, David Ives, has announced that four Microsoft Innovation Centres will be built in Africa in the next two years, two of which will be located in South Africa.
He said the centres act as economic ‘spark plugs' for local innovators and the local software industry.

They will also provide an estimated 6 000 businessmen and women per year with the technology they need to start up businesses or further their careers. ...

New website to expose child pornography

Johannesburg - Members of the public can now anonymously report any images of sexual abuse discovered on the internet through a newly launched website.

The website, www.fpbprochild.org.za, which is available 24 hours, seven days a week was launched in Johannesburg on Tuesday by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba.
