The secret is a secret no more. In the jungle of poverty and lost hope that is present-day Zimbabwe, the mighty lion sleeps no more.
Zim ex fiance minister Simba Makoni has jumped into the ring to contest the 29 March election against His Highness, Mad Bob Mugabe, the Terminator of Sinbabwe.
After the pathetic squabbling of the supposed mature opposition parties of Tsvangirai and Mutambara - at the moment decidedly the Dumb and Dumber of Zim politics - had left the way open for a Mugabe runaway victory and sixth term to run Zimbabwe further into the ground, this is about the best news the beleaguered nation could expect.
At last a man with backbone, a man of strength (Simba means strength in Shona) and a man with a vision and even an outsider's chance of giving Old Bob a bloody nose, has entered the fray.
The very fact that Mugabe has postponed the nominations deadline until the 15th of February, seems already an indication that the coterie of Mugabe henchmen are perturbed - if not downright worried.
Should we, like the soothsayer to Caesar in 44 BC - start whispering: "Beware the Ides of March"?
Makoni was born on 23 March 1950 - mere days after the so-called Ides , which in the Roman times, fell on the 15th of March - and the "elections" are at the end of March
Makoni is know to have several high-profile ZANU-PF stalwarts behind him - if one can believe the rumours.
Are we going to have a re-run of the ancient time?
Will we see a modern version of a group of "senators" who called themselves the Liberatores ("Liberators") stab to "death" Mugabe (in this case metaphorically with the sharp edge of the ballot and not the knife)?
Will these modern day "assassins" also justified their action on the grounds that they committed tyrannicide?
Or has Bob the Devious pulled another ace out of his voluminous sleeve and has sent Makoni the Gladiator (We who are about to vote salute you!?) in to finally and in one fell swoop of yet another masterstroke, decisively split the vote in those areas where the "intrepid squabblers" have/had some form of support?
Bob and Makoni 1; MDC 0? Whom Mugabe wishes to destroy he first makes glad?
Only time will tell ......................
