Default Duty free shop(s) at the Windhoek International airport

Sponsor's Message
Very common way of doing business in Namibia. The debacle surrounding the Hosea Kutako duty-free shop is one example of "catastrophic" ways of how business has and is been run in Namibia. Why not change the total policy, and replace it with a new policy to accommodate all three parties, with three smaller duty free shops. Is this not an international airport after all? International airports should at least have more then four duty free shops I suppose. Any way, guys fight it out in court, its also an option. Nice year to start the new year, happy new year.

What is the current policy regarding duty-free shop(s) at the airport that you refer to, mindfractory?

The duty-free shop at the airport is, as far as I know, a concession that is renewable every so often. Then a tender is called.

I must add, though, that the few times I have browsed through the offerings, I have not noticed any real discounts - at least for Namibians. Yes, I know you can claim back your VAT if you are outward bound, but, to my mind, the concession holders for the past years have made it little more than a honey trap for the unwary tourist - and, of course, a money spinner for them!.

Policy? Duty free in Namibia? Namibia and policies!? I personally think certain issues are so deeply rooted, is no policies but rather trade strategies ( beter known as trade scams ).

Just wait till the bomb explode over this issue, I do not like to sell the chickens before they hedge, it will be coming home to roost.

This is just another spectacular case over millions of N$ which I would like to follow and see how exploiting opportunities make some people move to the top. Its nice to view the Namibian corridors of power illustrating their muscle power.

Not easy to understand, but not all of us were schack-dwellers, before we relocate to Europe. By the way, Mathews Shikongo, is he still Lord Mayor of Windhoek? He is also another icon, maar so gaan dit aan. Moer voort. New year, new problems and good luck with the slimey Namibian politics.
