There is a possibility of a meningitis outbreak in the Caprivi region, but blood samples must first be verified by laboratories.
The Principal Medical Officer at the
Katima Mulilo State Hospital, Dr Simasiku Kabanje, told NBC News that two people have already been treated at the hospital for meningitis-related sickness.
Kabanje has called on those who fall sick not to waste time with traditional medication as the disease can spread and also kills fast. One patient is reported to be a
Katima Mulilo resident, while the second one is from Sachinga, some 20 kilometres west of the regional capital.
