Lucky Dube’s senseless and tragic murder last night has robbed South Africa of one of its most talented and patriotic musical ambassadors, the Democratic Alliance said in a statement issued today.

"The Democratic Alliance would like to send his family, friends and colleagues our sincere condolences at this very sad time and we urge the SAPS to track down his killers as soon as possible" the statement reads.

Further, "the circumstances surrounding his murder again illustrate that violent crime in South Africa is out of control, and that government’s remedies to address this scourge have failed."

"Lucky Dube did so much for our country, both as an artist and as a patriot. The best tribute to him and the amazing life he lived, would be for government to intensify its fight against crime. It can and must do more to stop the murders, the rapes, the hijackings and the robberies that threaten to tear us apart."
