NAMIBIA: Public called on to assist police

The Regional Commander of the Namibian Police in the Kunene Region, Deputy Commissioner Mandume Shifonono has called on the community to join the police in making Kunene a crime-free region.
Shifonono told Nampa that his objective for 2008 would be to minimize stock theft in the region.

He said the police had received and handled a very high number of livestock theft cases in 2007, which needed to be improved through building a close relationship with the traditional leaders and the community at large.

He said he would also work at making the region free of landmines as well as ensuring that the Liquor Act is fully implemented to prevent children from using alcohol and drugs, especially at Kamanjab and Khorixas.

Shifonono would also strive to educate the community on the operations of the police, liaise with government offices regarding the combating of crime in the region and intensify road traffic operations to get unworthy vehicles off the road.
