Pietro, hold yo horses, I am sure flying to the moon vs BBN, Flying to the moon is much much higher cost than the latter. Now, depending on the results of this brainstorming session as well as any other activity, of course it is better to narrow it down gradually to something workable, so be patient, we will still arrive at the specifics. There are lower cost alternatives to be had which can see this become a reality....think about the jobless youth, if they can actually get some monetary proceeds/rewards from taking part, businesses boosting visibility in terms of an interesting platform to advertise from and consequently impacting positively on their respective bottomlines, reality TV industry taking off in Namibia which in turn can have a ripple effect in terms of what is brought to the reality TV realm to not only provide entertainment but sensitize the public on socio/political and hey even economic issues, not to talk about the educational value some reality TV show's might have and even allow some narrow minded Namibians, maybe in key decisionmaking positions, to think a little bit liberal and flexible... Look at the bigger picture Pietro, BBN will be such a tiny spot on the reality TV Map, there are more benefits to be had ahead of us, watch and learn dear, watch and learn....;-)

The "agree"means that I am in agreement with juikk on the issue of the TV industry taking off. Currently I doubt, though, that nbc has nearly enough working equipment to do any type of OB (outside broadcast) of this magnitude - neither the required professional staff.

But, all in all, depending on the degree of serious intentions, it is not such a bad idea, after all.

And the "thanks" a recognition of the fact that juikk has done some serious thinking on the matter.

Thanks Oneword, a little step at a time never really hurt anyone. No one in their sane mind will embark on a project that has no return on investment , I trust. We have acouple of freelancers in the country, who know about soliciting funds. Of course it will take ateam of visionaries to realize a BBN or any such project. This forum could be one of the reference points for anyone who have been contemplating a project like this, what pros and cons he/she may keep in mind when pioniering anything toward this. They always say there is no money in Namibia, but I believe the opposite, it is time we target the money that seem to only get stuck with with the upper echolons of our society, time to work smarter I'd say...also keep in mind that smart partnerships can be striked with foreign investors...next comments please ;-)

juicy (juikk)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can think of many, many, many other projects that could use the money you want to squander!!!!!!!!!!! on a senseless show like BBN much better. Anyway, Multichoice has already indicated that they have more fodder!!!!!!!!!! for those who revel in this type of "reality" !!!!!!!!TV.

Enjoy to your heart's content --- and then think of how many orphans and other people could have had their lives improved even a little bit by the 100s of thousands Rands/NS (or whatever currency you prefer) wasted on this public spectacle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Instead of feeding hungry mouths we are now feeding voracious egos?????????????????????

Pietro,

Money can be made in different ways. What makes you think that a hereto ignorant business sector and governments will actually put money aside for the poor orphans and street children? Well dream on if you thought that and considering the above, establishing a sound entertainment sector(that does provide jobs to otherwise jobless people, don see much squandering here) is at least a step to the right direction. Why do I think so? Because the private sector has proven that they would rather dish out sponsorships to artists who sing nothing, but hahaha; rarely talented soccer teams, fund raising dinners that are far from targeting the plight of street children, etc etc....Lot's of money set aside, but not for the orphan, the poor, or the really vulnerable, all in the name of visibility....so I figure, hey, why if we can make celebrities from local, otherwise unemployed Namibian youth, we could have future 'Oprah', etc, etc, who will in turn no doubt support innitiatives such as childrens homes, real large scale help, such as founding & sustaining of such institutes, and not the meagre deal some businesses do at the moment, e.g. donating 1 days food to an orphanage, and the rest of the year is forgotten after cheap publisity had been achieved)....

Pietro, I could go on about it, but visionary and creative projects in this line is clearly not your thing, so I would rather you started outlining for us, how you thought Government and private funding can be solicited to benefit the poor, because clearly, you only see the 'squandering' and not the positive impact reality TV can have in Namibia.
