| RDP & SWAPO at it again over the weekend leading front page news across the country in the printed media(The Katutura incident). As per Mr Nyamu, it is now imperative the President of Namibia does something about these violent outbreaks, lest it starts infecting the whole country, in fact, Nujoma, whom most Swapo supporters still look up to as their 'ultimate Hero/Leader' , should join the President and DO Something about it!! |

| An interesting discussion indeed. As a young Namibian, I agree with "the youth are tired of the resounding old drum of the 'struggle for liberation' being drummed by our current leaders". Then there is the stubborn belief that SWAPO solely fought for the independence of Namibia. Being an addict of Namibian History i am well read and informed. I believe that given our history, many unsung heroes paved the way for any political party to eventually win the elections that would (eventually) bring about self-government of Namibia. It just so happened that SWAPO (which was under the leadership of Dr. Nujoma) had the right combination of people (and resources) and, yes, the charisma, to become the ideal party (under the status quo) to lead a self governed Namibia! That stage has passed now and we need to focus on what we need to do with the independence gained. Do we expect to live off yesterday's harvest forever? Will the rains that watered out crops come again tomorrow? I'm starting to apply the Orwellian theory to Namibia's political landscape.... As for the formation of a coalition party, be serious man, first deal with tribalism. And RDP vs SWAPO? "When Elephants fight, its the grass that suffers"... These guys will lead us down thr Rwanda road if they don't stop this foolishness!

| My friends - this talk of no-go areas is a very bad and regrettable development for our young democracy. In a democracy there is no such thing as "you cannot go here, or you cannot go there and speak your mind". In a democracy you have the right to speak your mind whereever you wish to do so. You can say what you think in Swakopmund, in Ohangwena in Oshakati, in Windhoek. And the Police have an obligation to protect you to exercise that right. To the SWAPO Party supporters who are setting up no-go or liberated areas I say this: You do not own the Republic of Namibia. You have simply been given a mandate by the people of Namibia to look after our country, to rule it, to shepherd for a certain period of time. And when that time comes to an end the people of Namibia will make up their mind whether you have performed well enough and deserve another chance to rule the country for another term. That is the way of our Constitution, of our laws. That is the way of democracy, they way we choose to organise our society politically. The brothers and sisters who died in the liberation struggle did not do so for you to now go and perpetrate violence on your fellow citizens. They have done so to set us all FREE! STOP TRAMPLING THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF NAMIBIANS! To say you liberated this or that are and now it is yours has to be rejected with the contempt it deserves. Namibia belongs to the people of Namibia. It does not belong to SWAPO Party, or RDP or any other group of people. WAKE UP: You are leading our country down the path of confrontation and violence. If - as you always claim - SWAPO Party is a mature democractic party then demonstrate that maturity in your political actions. Violence is not the way to settle political disputes. The ballot box is. And to the SWAPO Party leadership who has let this genie out of the bottle I say this: Put it back in the bottle. You are putting the peace in our country at risk. There is no place in Namibia for no-go areas. Any party - whether SWAPO Party or DTA or whatever - whose supporters advocate the use of violence and engage in violence are no good for our country.

| during elections wild promises are made, new ideas expressed, old policies challenged. there is none of that all we see is hate speach fuelling future violence. after the speach a nice car takes them to their nice home where they feast on a meal provided by a nice lady who works for $40 a day cooking and cleaning for 10 hours. it's rather odd to see supporters in their Namibian blue uniforms who if lucky make $40 a day "if they have a job" rallying for Swapo and RDP after the rally they go to their tin shack, go to the bathroom behind the shack , eat some maiise meal and then walk to get some water down to the informal settlements water tap for a drink of smelly water. don't they get the joke yet? |
