| More sobering noises from the South Africans, this time interestingly in direct contradiction to Mbeki's now infamous "there is no crisis in Zimbabwe" cloud-cuckoo land assessment. The ANC - and some other regional political organisations - is waking up to what some if its members have been saying for years. I suppose if you stick your head into the sand too long you start suffocating - these are the first signs that the rest of the body is kicking back, saying" let's get real", i.e. give me air!!!!!!! | This is a verbatim statement from the BBC. I thought it more reasonably placed here than under "statements": Quote:

| Is their a way to write an open letter to our former president Sam Nujoma and petition him to head over to Zim to have a chat with his buddy, Mad Bob? On a serious note though, would this not be the best time for our former head of state to use his friendship channels to convince Robert Mugabe to step down and accept the will of the people. Surely it will be easy for Nujoma to highlight the pain and suffering being inflicted on the Zimbabwean people. Our former president can now really step to the fore to alleviate the crisis and help broker a peaceful resolution and facilitate a smooth transition of power. This will be more of benefit to Namibia as a "conflict resolver"; I think Dr. Sam Nujoma can do a much better job than Pres. Mbeki... Last edited by tjommie; 22nd April 2008 at 12:11 PM. |

| I think we should wait for the OFFICIAL comment by the Namibian government on the Chinese ship. It seems like Kaapanda spoke off the cuff .............. that will determine the position of the government re Zim. If Nam says the ship's cargo of death can go via Namibia unhindered, I doubt very much whether Takekulu Sam will even consider what you have suggested. | We could try a petition here on Shebeen, but then people would have to be prepared to put their full names to it, otherwise it would not carry any weight or be meaningful. Is this an idea? Would be easy enough: We prepare a statement and then "sign" it by poisting a message that we support the petition. |
