The Governor of Kunene Province in Angola Pedro Mutindi is reported to have cautioned Namibian business institutions that do business in his country as well as some political parties that his Government will take drastic action against them if they are found to be undermining the Swapo-led government in Namibia.
This is outright interference in the internal political affairs of our Republic. I say to the governor: Sort out Angola's political problems first, before you come and meddle in ours. Namibians are mature people, and if they decide to back another horse, then it is entirely within our Republic's Constitution, and appropriate. Namibia is years ahead of Angola in terms of developing democratic institutions, and something akin to a democratic political culture, and Angola would do very well to learn from us in this regard. To threaten Namibians that joining this or other political party except the ruling SWAPO Party is a hollow threat, and I am sure most Namibians look right through it. What do you think?
