Exclamation The Enigma of decentralization in Namibia

Sponsor's Message
Question: Is it just me or is the Government effecting decentralization in a 'top down' approach? i.e. North to rest of of the country and never the reverse? Talk to me Namiba!

Seems like it! Although it has to be said that the majority of citizens live in the North, so any decentralisation excercise would probably emanate from there, since it has the fastest effect and since the structures in place are probably better than anywhere else.

But equally, it also means scarce resources go to this region of our nation, and others fall short. Also, we have to remember that this has been a trend since Independence, i.e. resources have been flowing to the North since that is where the majority of voters who support the current SWAPO Government live and work.

It's a sublte form of patronage: You vote for me, and I'll make sure you're OK. This is not unique to Namibia, but the problem we have is that the cake is small, and everyone wants a piece.

The Government would do well, though, to make sure everyone does get a piece of the cake and accordingly adjust the distribution to regions more failry and equitably. Experience throughout our continent has shown that people take note of favouritism on a regional basis and will not tolerate it forever......

Well, I hope the new reshuffle, which saw a damara minister for lands is not actually a ploy to get the khoi votes for the majority dudes and galz....wonder if he be havin 'jelly principles' or be a strong hand and give e.g the /Gobas(Omaheke) back to the /Gobanin? I hear there is talk of a traditional council being set-up.....Maybe elections should happen much more frequently to ensure an optimally performing Government....jux saying

Of course I am not advocating 'delocating' those that find themselves already in the region, but a majority of the /Gobanin are still slaving away at other's farms, it would hence not hurt to give them their own land, with access to water and relevant support that is becoming them for centuries now...

I still see a lot of a certain group of previously disadvantaged namibians getting land in the /Gobas, but no /Gobani owning any land in their ancestral land, wow, Namibia is for sure a'fair and just' society...how nice to be part of it
