Thanks for starting this discussion. I'm sure our thoughts continue to be with the victims of the recent flooding. There is no easy and simple solution to the problems of flooding, Ndanomah. If you look around the world there are many countries that currently experience major flooding. There are some measures that can be taken to mitigate the risks of flooding. For example, local planning laws and regulations should prohibit developers from erecting buildings in areas that are prone to flooding. Similarly, local authorities should ensure proper drainage systems are put in place, and construct flood defences where necessary, and where possible.

We may not be able to influence when and where floods are going to occur, but, as Comrade_007 says, we can influence the effects the floods have on our people. Planning, I think, plays a major role in this. We must also take due cognisance of the changes in weather that might be brought along by the dreaded so-called "warming of the earth", "climate change" and whatever else they care to call the careless damage to our fragile environment.

Brother? You are being very negative. You are picking on one tiny 0,01% detail, but lose out on the 99,99% of the other causes. Study the various environmental issues and you might be enlightened.
