Thumbs up Discover your new State House

The doors of our new State House opened in Windhoek yesterday, and thanks to Oneword we now have over 50 photos to discover every nook and cranny of it. Start the tour here: Namibia's New State House

What do you think about our new State House? What are your feelings when you see the pictures?

Thumbs down Re: Discover your new State House

Some nice design touches, but what a waste of money. The money for this monstrosity could have built XXX number of new houses, schools, clinics, roads...it could have funded XXX number of scholarships... the list goes on and on. I am not proud of it. Parts of it look garish and a throwback to communist pomposity, nnever mind the bunker-look to some rooms. And what do stuffed animals say about stewardship of our environment? I couldn't believe my eyes. Was that a rhinoI saw in one of them? What a morbid and terible touch to the whole complex. Symbolically it shows that the Executive branch in our Republic completely holds sway and is the gravitational centre of power -not ALL the branches of Government.

Did we need a new State House? Yes
Do we need this: No
Altogether: 2/10

Red face Re: Discover your new State House

IT may not be to everyone's likes and tastes, but it will make sure our leaders are always surrounded by sumptuous luxury, that's for sure. It is their birth-right, isn't it? I think it could have been on a different, more appropriate scale and reflecting the true realities and challenges we face. Imposing it definitely is. I would give it 5/10.

Well, MORBID it is, really depressing taste in these modern & High Tech times. The new state house is for sure an existing proof that: Luxury≠elegance!

Ugly with the capital letter U

And what is with the board room table resembling and elongated coffin? Man, what a waste of taxpayer's hard earned money!! This is not damn Asia, they should have requested input from a local architect or at least one from southern Africa, but hey, why cry ova spilt milk right?

All in all I think the whole project was a joke turned wry, is it really worth the price or did someone pocket loads and did a half baked job? We can only but wonder....My overall rating: No stars to waste on this project but to term it DISGUSTING

How much did this monstrosity from the 'socialist era' cost the taxpayer again? 500 mil? 1000 mil? If it wasn't for the 'bronze' oryx and the 'rising sun' this lovely 'bunker' could very well be mistaken to be in the fomer Romania or current North Korea. If such exorbitant amounts of money were spent, couldn't an attempt have been made to at least make it look like it fitted in the Namibian landscape? Instead nothing but ugly pomp is served - sad.

show some respect. what is wrong with state house? not all people share same taste so some people like this, other people like that. why should our president not live in a big place? do you want him live in a shebeen? why? namibia is proud nation so we show our visitors we have proper state house not like the old pondok that was build by verwoerds.
