The three-day SAA Challenge cricket match between Namibia and North West was evenly poised at the end of the second day’s play at the Wanderers field in
Windhoek on October 19.
Namibia had a slight three-run advantage on the first innings scores, while North West were 239/1 in there second innings for an overall lead of 236 runs.
North West batted first and declared at 337/7 after 85 overs.
Their top batsmen were Niel Bredenkamp and Jimmy Kgamadi who both scored 125 runs. North West were struggling at 60/3 when the two came together to stage a gret partnership of 214 for the fourth wicket and send them on their way to a big first innings total.
Bredenkamp scored his runs off 166 balls and hit 15 fours and seven sixes, while Kgamadi hit his runs off 199 balls and hit 10 fours and two sixes.
Namibia’s most successful bowler was Nicolaas Scholtz who took 3/74 off 17 overs.
Louis Klazinga took 2/36 off 12 overs and Gerrie Snyman 1/47 of 13 overs.
Burger goes cheaply
Namibia lost JB Burger early in their innings for one run, but new caps Sean Silver and Gerhard Rudolph staged a fine recovery.
When Silver was out for 43 they had taken the total to 100/2, while Rudolph went for 49 runs, caught behind with the total at 113/3.
Gerrie Snyman and new cap Craig Williams put Namibia in charge with a fine partnership for the fourth wicket. Snyman hit a typical swashbuckling knock before being caught for 90 runs, while Williams went on to score 55. The two put on 126 runs for the fourth wicket.
Namibia were eventually all out for 340, for a slender lead of 3 runs on the first innings.
In North West's second innings, Mostert was dismissed off Klazinga's bowling for 18, while Jonker retired hurt on 64. The not out batsmen were Bhayat on 60 and Niel Bredenkamp on 78.
