Default What the heck is going on in Namibian rugby?

Sponsor's Message
As an outsider it looks to me as if the interminable warfare between different factions in Namibian rugby is ongoing. Can anybody give me a real insight into what is going on here? It seems to me people are forever undermining each other, or claiming this or that. What's going on?

Now we have Conradie at a press conference saying the Namibia Rugby Union Executive was "led into a trap and blamed the promoter of the match, Willem Strauss of South Africa and the NRU’s chief executive officer, Keith Allies" for allowing FNB Namibia to sponsor a match between an invitational Namibian team and Vodacom Western Province on June 7, in contravention of the NRU’s sponsorship agreement with MTC. Further, he says “all this was just a lie and an attempt to frustrate the relationship between the NRU and its main sponsor to bring the name of the current executive into disrepute and to fail the sponsorship agreement,” he said.

That sounds to me like a complete lack of faith, confidence and trust between the people running rugby in our country, and it is a shame. Get your house in order NRU!

Everything is wrong in rugby. How can Conradie turn around now and say he was hoodwinked by Allies and Co. As a responsible leader, he should have demanded proof of communication and payment commitment between FNB and Allies and whoever else was responsible for the mess up.

I find it strange that the selfsame Conradie who is now pleading innocence, was on radio Radio 99 the day after MTC announced the cancellation of the deal, saying all sorts of bad things about MTC's Aochamub and the company as a whole. He even had the audacity to say that he would personally remove the MTC advertising boards at the Hage Geingob stadium. He even said loudly and proudly that the way was now open for companies like Cell One to sponsor rugby.

After having said all that, how does he come around and say he was not let in on the facts.

What Conradie said on radio that day gave the impression that he was involved in the planning of the match, from the first minute and that the team was not even a national team but an invitational team, thus not warranting the sanction of the MTC. It is poor leadership to turn around and blame others for your own lack of leadership. Our sports deserve better, period!!!

Thanks for your comments, Zakesman! So is it right to say, then, that there seems to be some power struggle going on between the administrators and the executive? Surely the administrators should get on with the job and - obviously - consult with/inform the executive and obtain mandates to do stuff that's in the interest of the sport?

Is that what's actually not happening? IT seems to me - and again I will not claim to be an expert on Namibina rugby - that we have on the one hand the executive cutting deals and this and that, and then the administrators doing/trying the same. If it is, then NAMIBIAN RUGBY WILL GET NOWHERE and the only thing that will happen is that some people's EGOS get satisfied. What a shame!

Default It's that old Namibian song

Instead of working for the commong good and success of the sport, peeps on the executive and in the administration act for their own egotistical and material reasons. It's all about image, power, money, greed and ego, and little about rugby - I think.

I completely agree with you Juikk. At this moment rugby is the best sport in Namibia, it's just sad about all the power struggle that is going on.
